Computer Labs @ APG

Organization:

We have 4 labs: Room 214 PC Windows XP lab, Room 213 (an older mac lab), Room 403 Windows XP PC's(new) and the Beacon MAC OS X Lab in room 211.   The 214 computers are not labeled.  Teachers sign-up on forms in the main office to use.  Students are able to access the labs with their teacher.  If teacher has requested, the Librarian will make a curriculum presentation before the students the assignment.

Each student in the school will be assigned a password that will be given to them by the homeroom teacher.  Each student will a folder to which they can save work and access it from any school computer.

Leadership and Accountability:  Who is accountable for all computer labs?

Michael Yi is the person responsible for management of the labs.  For local questions, see:

403 lab: Louise Cawthon

211 lab: Nathaniel Carter

Michael Yi is the main site contact between your school and the IT department.

Maintenance and Security:  What has been done to assure that computers are in a secure location all the time?

The labs are in a locked classroom and have unique keys.  The administration is working to get all the labs on a non-classroom key.  Everyone can report hardware or software issues directly to Michael Yi.  Please fill out a tech request.

Accessibility for All:  How can you ensure equity and accessibility to the lab for all classes?

Teacher sign up on form in a binder in the main office to use the labs in 213 and 214.  The lab with new computers is located in Room 403, where the science classes meet.

I always find it sad that so many teachers are unable and/or unwilling to use new technology when it can make their curriculum so much richer and engaging. With persistence and diligence though, surely they'll eventually come on board.

I sympathize with lack of skills amongst your teachers. I'd just like to suggest that as you look forward to old people retiring and new "tech savy" teachers come on board, you can't depend on their tech skills translating to integrating technology into teaching and learning. My experience is that new young teachers need just as much training as the older ones. It's the training and support that you all need. Believe me. I'm OLD!

True... our district should provide more tech. training so all teachers will use the 21th century technology. In the mean time, use any technology you can get access to.
