Computers are set up in a semi-circle facing a centralized teacher desk. No teacher computer currently, but laptop will be assigned.

Each computer is labeled on the left corner of the hard drive, numbered 1 through 30.

Each student should be assigned a unique computer by number so that changes, graffiti and trash can be traced to the student.

White board is set up behind students. LCD will be installed behind students as well. Cue to students is "swivel."

CURRENT CHALLENGES: Unable to print from lab computers or to download/install programs because IT personnel locked our school out. This makes the computer lab significantly less educationally useful. Any possibility of fixing this?

Leadership and Accountability

Coach K (Keith Norman) and Nathan Cox are accountable for all aspects of lab management.

Coach K, Nathan Cox and principal Bill Sanderson are the main contacts between ISA and IT.

Maintenance and Security

Computers live in a locked classroom accessible only by staff members.

Each computer and monitor is individually locked down, and keys are held by Nathan Cox only.

Hardware and software issues are brought to the attention of the principal via email.

CURRENT CHALLENGE: Staff needs training on IT requests. Bill Sanderson will schedule such training.

Accessibility for All

Classes sign up to use the computer lab, first-come, first-served, in a binder in the library.

Thanks for making the point that we need to make each assignment relevant to them. Great idea that students had a chance to learn the powerpoint software by making their own slideshow of their life.

I love that you focused on professional dress and demeanor, and included this in the rubric. It's like teaching the kids to code-switch.

This is an excellent lesson-I taught college and careers. A great idea, because powerpoint is a tool that all students need to use and the initial lesson is a great way to get their feet wet. And then their presentations are a great way to learn about possible colleges and careers. Great job! You should pass this on to other c and c teachers in the district, it would be a great project for all students to do!

Doing a "practice" Powerpoint assignment about a personal subject is a PERFECT way to teach the technology without them having to worry about the content, since the content is something they know and love (themselves). Then, for the real deal, they can focus on the content (their college) and not worry too much about the technology, which they already know.

I like that you allowed the kids to use their own theme to learn something new, so that they are not hung up on content and are able to focus on process....

Focus on professionalism is very important.

I like the idea of allowing our students to practice powerpoint in a comfortable friendly topic. It's so important to be sucessful and have fun.
