Computer Lab Set-up Tips for Your School
Use your wiki page to discuss and brainstorm the set up for your school for each of the areas below. This will be the beginning of a plan for your school site.
Organization
Lab set up: arranged for easy access, each computer uniquely labeled, students assigned to a computer
- Twenty-six computers are located on tables which are arranged in a square, with four additional computers on tables in the center. There is one laser printer located at one corner of the square. An LCD projector will be added to the lab for instructional use. Each computer is not currently uniquely labeled but we will look into getting this done.
Leadership and Accountability
Who on your school site is accountabile for all aspects of managing the lab?
Who are/is the main site contact between your school and the IT department?
- The Technology Aide collaborates with staff in scheduling the use of the lab. He also supervises student use during lunch.
- The Technology Aide.
Maintenance and Security
What has been done to assure that computers are in a secure location all the time?
What system does everyone routinely use to report hardware or software issues as they arrise?
- The computers are cabled-down. The entry door to the classroom is locked when the room is not in use. The windows to the outside, facing the inner yard, are metal screened to prevent athletic equipment from breaking the windows. (This screen will also prevent intruders.) The building is alarmed.
- Teachers and paraprofessionals notify the Technology Aide of any hardware or software issues. When he is unable to troubleshoot or repair the problem, he turns in a work order through the front office.
Accessibility for All
How can you ensure equity and accessibility to the lab for all classes?
- The lab is situated in Room 108 of the main building. This makes it accessible to all grade levels. The lab is utilized during instructional time as well as during lunch and after school.
- Some time is dedicated to support Strategic and Mathematics intervention classes, but open periods are available for sign-up.
