Marina Middle School

Write the name of your school staff present at today's workshop:

  1. Shauna Morgan Poong

  2. Lorraine J. Mcleod

  3. Paul K. Wong

  4. Michelle C. Navales

The goal of this activity is:

     (1) an opportunity to discuss and share with others how your school manages your computer lab

     (2) Become familiar the skills of using a wiki and possible future uses for this sort of application for the classroom

Discuss these prompts. One person from your group will write a few notes as you discuss the following:

  • How are classes using your school computer lab?
  1. Currently, Marina has a desktop computer lab that few teachers take advantage of primarily because we do not have a computer teacher to manage and support and we have found that not all teachers manage their classes well enough to keep the computer lab usable for others to use (ie, behavior management in lab is either non-existant or very poor and students are logged into inappropriate sites, buttons from keyboard are missing, mice go missing, etc....)
  2. In addition, Marina received a K-12 voucher mobile laptob lab but we have been unable to utilize the lab due to no wireless router to access internet (in contacting IT, we were informed that we could not just purchase our own wireless router due to possible viruses infiltrating the system. So for now, we are stuck in limbo not utilizing the technology we were awarded.
  3. The school has not received usernames for our students. So students cannot log on to the computers yet.

  • What special tips do you have for managing your lab for other schools? (e.g - Possible tips to share: How does your school assure maintenance and security? Who is responsible for for management? How does your school ensure equity and accessibility to the lab for all classes?)

  • What might be a few concerns or issues about your lab that your school is still working on solutions to solve?
