Mission High School
Write the name of your school staff present at today's workshop:
-

-
The goal of this activity is:
(1) an opportunity to discuss and share with others how your school manages your computer lab
(2) Become familiar the skills of using a wiki and possible future uses for this sort of application for the classroom
Discuss these prompts. One person from your group will write a few notes as you discuss the following:
- How are classes using your school computer lab?
- research: school projects
- word processing and printing
- creating web-based digital portfolios (dreamweaver)
- art: digital photography, animation, illustration
- presentations (powerpoint)
- communication (e-mail, pickupdropoff folders, school blog)
- online content (grading programs, online quizzes and assignments)
- instruction: technology tools, core content
- online yearbook
-
- What special tips do you have for managing your lab for other schools? (e.g - Possible tips to share: How does your school assure maintenance and security? Who is responsible for for management? How does your school ensure equity and accessibility to the lab for all classes?)
- Each lab has an assigned lab manager
- Scheduling (online yahoo! calendars accessible by anyone, only editable by lab manager)
- Maintenance (in coordination with tech support personnel), esp. troubleshooting
- Part of technology committee which makes technology plans and decisions (and PD) for entire school
- Security: Only lab managers have keys to the labs, all hardware is locked down to furniture
- Printing: Teacher responsible for providing paper to students as needed, header page tells who sent each print job
- Equity: each lab is prioritized for a particular department (lab managers represent all departments), Other teachers can use the lab on a case by case basis if their own department's lab is being used for a particular period, but can't book other departments' labs for extended projects.
- What might be a few concerns or issues about your lab that your school is still working on solutions to solve?
